The short answer

The Counseling Compact lets a licensed professional counselor practice across state lines in member states without getting a separate license in each one. For clients, it means you can keep seeing your counselor by telehealth even if you move or travel to another compact state.

What it is

An agreement among participating states that grants a qualified counselor the privilege to practice in other member states. The counselor still follows the rules of the state where the client is located.

Why it helps clients

It keeps care steady for people who relocate, students who move for school, military families, and travelers who split the year between states. You do not have to start over with a new therapist because your address changed.
